US Indian War / Spanish American War era. This bag is similar to normal haversack, but issued to new recruits for use during training. Has nice U.S. and "Recruit" stencil on front flap. Clear Watervliet Arsenal stamp inside. Inside pouch snap has been replaced with Civil War era Federal Tunic Button. This is the early version with leather fittings. No shoulder strap. VG with soiling and 1" tear on front.
